Delta Air Lines is expanding service between London and two U.S. cities: Detroit, Michigan and Portland, Oregon

Starting in summer 2019, Delta will operate two daily flights connecting London’s Heathrow Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, up from one daily flight. The airline will also implement daily service between Heathrow and Portland International Airport, up from flights that have been running three-to-four times each week.

Delta additionally plans to provide nonstop service from Boston, Massachusetts to Lisbon, Portugal, beginning May 23. The new route enhances Delta’s current line-up of trans-Atlantic service, which currently includes connections to Paris, France; Amsterdam, Netherlands; and Dublin, Ireland, along with London. Delta also maintains partner flights to Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Italy, and Seoul, South Korea.

New British Air Route

Beginning April 4, 2019, British Airways will be the only airline offering direct service between London, United Kingdom and Charleston, South Carolina. With two flights a week (Thursday and Sunday) during the summer season, the British Airways route will be the only direct connection between Europe and Charleston.

Up to this point, travelers going to Charleston would have to fly into Atlanta first, which is a four-hour drive from Charleston. British Air will use the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner for the new route. It will take delivery of a dozen new Boeing 787-10s between 2020 and 2023. Of note, Boeing has a factory in Charleston, where 787-10s are now being built.
