Japan & South Korea Sales Mission

Brand USA is organizing the second annual sales mission to Japan and South Korea to help educate the travel industry in those two countries about the myriad of travel opportunities that they can pitch to their clients.

The sales mission, scheduled for July 9-12, provides a platform for U.S. destination marketing organizations (DMOs) and suppliers to interact directly with tour operators, airline representatives, travel agents, meetings, incentives, conventions, and expositions (MICE) buyers and media.

Both countries are prime markets for travel to the United States. Outbound travel from Japan is expected to remain stable.  The United States is a prime travel destination for Japanese travelers. In 2016, a total of 3.57 million Japanese visited the U.S., placing that country fourth overall for international inbound markets. Japanese travelers favor destinations on the U.S. east coast, west coast, Hawaii and the south.

In South Korea, the U.S. is the third most visited country.  A total of 1.97 million South Korean visited the U.S. in 2016.  Increased air service between the U.S. and South Korea could translate into continued growth. South Korea has registered a steady growth of 20.9 percent for U.S. travel, the highest increase among all other source nations. The U.S. was the most popular long-haul destination (outside of Asia) for South Korean travelers.

“Japanese travelers are certainly enthusiastic about travel to the United States,” said Brand USA President and Chief Executive Officer Chris Thompson. “As reported in a 2016 Brand USA Market Intelligence Study, nearly three quarters of survey respondents in Japan said they would recommend the United States as a holiday destination.”
