The 75th Commemoration of the Attack on Pearl Harbor Honors the “Greatest Generation”

The 75th Commemoration of the attack on Pearl will be honored next month with eleven days of events and ceremonial tributes all geared towards “Honoring the Past, Inspiring the future.”

The 75th Commemoration of Pearl Harbor Committee has planned an unprecedented series of events from December 1-11 to remember National Pearl harbor Remembrance Day on December 7.  Thousands of global visitors and Hawaii residents are expected to take part in the ceremonies and events with media coverage reaching millions of viewers worldwide.

The events are dedicated to the “Greatest Generation,” – men and women whose patriotism, ingenuity and selfless commitment to the greater good unites generations and instills values of leadership among our youth.

The schedule of events include memorials dedicated to USS Utah and USS Oklahoma, the reconciliation “Blackened Canteen Ceremony” at the USS Arizona Memorial, a luncheon honoring the units of Americans of Japanese Ancestry, a Pearl Harbor documentary film premiere, a historic movie series on Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor Survivor Gala Tribute, Celebration for Veterans, Active Duty Military and their families, and a live concert at Aloha Stadium.

Hawaii's Governor David Y. Ige commissioned the Blue Ribbon Leadership Committee, chaired by Admiral Thomas B. Fargo USN (Ret.), and presented a Proclamation to the 75th Commemoration of Pearl Harbor Committee. The proclamation states “the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor and other airfields on the Island of Oahu led directly to our country’s entry into WWII.  Those events changed our lives forever and triggered our resolve as a nation, our can-do attitude, and an unmatched commitment to the defense of freedom.”

“The 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor will focus the world’s attention on Hawaii and provide us this unique opportunity to honor the last of those who experienced the emotional awakening triggered on that ‘date which will live in infamy’ and to perpetuate those core values that they shared, “ Fargo said. “The 75th Commemoration embraces our acknowledgement and respect for all men and women who have answered the call of duty for the last seven decades and honors those during WWII who did everything possible to protect our nation and the world. I am privileged to lead the 75th Commemoration of Pearl Harbor Committee.”
