Romania to Become 43rd Visa Waiver Program Market

As one of Europe's emerging travel markets, Romania has seen steady growth in outbound travel to the United States. In 2024, more than 82,000 Romanians visited the U.S., and this number is projected to increase with the elimination of the visa requirement for legitimate business and leisure travelers.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the agency that oversees the program, anticipates the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) application will be updated on or around March 31, 2025, to allow most citizens and nationals of Romania to apply to travel to the United States under the VWP.
