Travel Destinations are Open for Business Despite Recent Hurricane

The Southeast region of the United States is open for tourism business after fortunately being spared major damage when Hurricane Matthew unleashed torrential rains and howling winds along the eastern coast of the United States last month.

While the news media focused on the hardest hit area, the vast majority of the Southeast escaped without any significant destruction.  Because of that, Charleston and Myrtle Beach in South Carolina; Charlotte, North Carolina, Georgia and Jacksonville and Miami in Florida are welcoming visitors with open arms.  The best way to support any these locations is through visiting and promoting tourism.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, Brand USA brought in two experts in disaster relief to share best practices in its new series, entitled "Inside Travel with Peter Greenberg."  In the first episode, Kim Priez of New Orleans and Tony Cordo of Maryland discuss how destinations can prepare and respond to severe weather.

Their suggestions include having a plan set up in advance of pending weather; work with others to coordinate action and communication; get the word out you are open for business; and encourage tourists to support your communities and destinations by keeping their plans to visit or making new plans for a travel getaway.
