USA Summer Camps a Big Hit for International Youth

A total of 110 students traveled to the United States this past summer to learn about astronomy, biology, and robots – thanks to a thriving partnership between Brand USA and Business Weekly that promoted summer educational programs in the U.S. for youths from Taiwan.

The partnership publicized the Houston Association for Space and Science Education (HASSE), a nonprofit organization that creates positive learning experiences for teenagers, helps them foster an interest in mathematics, science, teamwork, creativity, and technology and teaches them to set goals geared towards future success. The summer camp programs offer youths a chance to experience the life of astronauts and astronomers as well as delve into the fascinating aspects of outer space.

HASSE is supported by entrepreneurs, scholars, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) scientists and astronauts. One notable HASSE special adviser is Astronaut Leroy Chiao, Ph.D., an engineer and commander of the International Space Station Expedition 10.

Working closely with Business Weekly, Brand USA created advertisements to promote four camps for the summer of 2016 in astronomy, biology, and robots. About 62 percent of the students who signed up for the camps did so after seeing the Brand USA/Business weekly promotions. These programs not only benefit the actual students, but they also create a myriad of business opportunities for the tourism industry in the United States.

A total of 35 participants attended the HASSE Space Camp I between July 3-17 in Houston, Texas and Huntsville, Alabama, while another 29 attended Space Camp II in those two cities from July 10-24. A group of 14 youths attended the Biology Camp from July 12-25 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and a group of 32 attended the Robot Camp from July 10-24, also in Houston and Huntsville.
